Phnom Banan
Phnom Banan Temple
Phnom Banan is one of Battambang Province’s most important and well-preserved ancient temples. Perched atop a hill approximately 25 kilometers south of Battambang city, the temple offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, rice fields, and traditional villages.
Built during the 11th century under the reign of King Udayadityavarman II, Phnom Banan is a remarkable example of Angkorian architecture. The temple features five impressive towers arranged on a rectangular platform, a design that is often compared to the iconic Angkor Wat.
Visitors reach the temple by climbing a staircase of more than 350 steps, a journey rewarded with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere at the summit. Along the way, travelers can enjoy beautiful scenery and experience the natural beauty of the region.
Phnom Banan is not only a significant historical and religious site but also a wonderful destination for photography, cultural exploration, and discovering Cambodia’s rich Khmer heritage. Its combination of ancient architecture, spiritual significance, and spectacular landscapes makes it one of Battambang’s must-visit attractions.
