Day 2 Kampong Phleang Floating Village
Kampong Phleang is one of the largest and most authentic floating villages on the shores of Tonlé Sap Lake, located about 35 km southeast of Siem Reap. Home to thousands of local residents, the village offers a fascinating look into the traditional lifestyle of Cambodia’s fishing communities.
The village is famous for its impressive stilt houses, built up to 8–10 meters high to adapt to the dramatic seasonal changes in the lake’s water level. During the rainy season, boats travel through the flooded village and surrounding forests, while the dry season reveals the towering wooden stilts supporting each home.
A boat tour through Kampong Phleang allows visitors to experience local life up close, passing schools, markets, Buddhist pagodas, and family homes. Depending on the season, you can also explore the peaceful flooded mangrove forest, where diverse birds, fish, and other wildlife thrive.
Unlike many tourist destinations, Kampong Phleang remains a working community where fishing is the main source of income. Visiting the village provides an authentic cultural experience while supporting local families and community-based tourism.
