Wat Phnom
Wat Phnom
Wat Phnom is the most important and historic temple in Phnom Penh, standing on a small hill in the heart of the city. Built in 1372, the temple is closely linked to the founding of Phnom Penh and remains one of Cambodia’s most significant religious and cultural landmarks.
Surrounded by beautiful gardens and shaded walkways, Wat Phnom offers visitors a peaceful escape from the busy city. The temple is a popular place for both locals and tourists who come to pray, make offerings, and admire its traditional Khmer architecture.
According to local legend, the temple was established by Lady Penh, who discovered sacred Buddha statues floating in the river and placed them on the hill, giving the city its name, Phnom Penh, meaning “Penh’s Hill.”
Today, Wat Phnom is a must-visit attraction, offering a unique blend of history, spirituality, and cultural heritage in the heart of Cambodia’s capital.
